Instructions to Authors

Submission

Authors are to submit their manuscripts electronically via :editor@in-mind.org. Articles may only be submitted electronically (.rtf, or .doc). Please save the manuscript and accompanynig images under the first author's last name (for example IJzerman.rtf or IJzerman.doc and IJzerman.png). Authors are to abide by the APA's Checklist for Manuscript Submission. This checklist can be consulted for more information, including guidelines for preparing the electronic file. We only accept review articles of social psychological research with fewer than 2,500 words (excluding references and definitions) that are intended to inform the general public on social psychological trends and research.

Important: Please note that In-Mind differs significantly from regular scientific journals. While APA-formatting is required, manuscripts submitted to In-Mind should not have the read of common scientific journal articles. The magazine's primary goal is edutainment. We expect scientific rigidity and thoroughness of our field, while preserving readability tailored to a wider audience. We believe that this readability is attained by adopting a different style of writing. We expect authors to write an attractive lede and a nut graf in a 'story-telling' way. In order to aid authors in their writing, we provide slides from a recent workshop on writing and communicating to the general public by Scott Sleek and Hans IJzerman at the yearly meeting of the Association for Psychological Science here. In addition, authors can download a checklist provided to our editors here. Finally, authors are encouraged to read a recent issue for examples.

In-Mind is a peer-reviewed E-Journal.

General correspondence may be directed to the Editor.

Manuscript Preparation

Authors should prepare manuscripts according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.). Manuscripts may be copyedited for bias-free language (see chap. 2 of the Publication Manual). Formatting instructions (all copy must be double-spaced) and instructions on the preparation of tables, figures, references, metrics, and abstracts appear in the Manual. See APA's Checklist for Manuscript Submission.

Keywords: All manuscripts must include up to five keywords or brief phrases.

Definitions: All manuscripts should include a list of definitions of social psychological terms used.

Teaser: All manuscripts should provide a teaser for the frontpage of our website. Teasers should not exceed three sentences. Better teasers means more readers!

Abstract: All manuscripts should provide an abstract. We will not publish this manuscript, but this will be important for indexing your article elsewhere.

References: References should be listed in alphabetical order. Each listed reference should be cited in text, and each text citation should be listed in the References. Basic formats are as follows:

• Haag, L., & Stern, E. (2003). In search of the benefits of learning Latin. Journal of Educational Psychology, 95, 174–178.

• Bollen, K. A. (1989). Structural equations with latent variables. New York: Wiley.

• Johnson, D. W., & Johnson, R. T. (1990). Cooperative learning and achievement. In S. Sharan (Ed.), Cooperative learning: Theory and research (pp. 173–202). New York: Praeger.

Supplemental Materials: In-Mind requires at least two images per article (125X175 pixels, preferably .png format). Please only use original materials or materials from which copyright has been obtained. Outward links can be placed on a limited basis. Authors of accepted papers will be asked to work with the editor and production staff to provide supplementary materials as appropriate.

Biography: The first author should submit a brief biography with his or her affilation, research interests, and a picture. For examples, please see the Magazine Staff section. For each author, we also request an image of 125X175 pixels (preferably .png format).

Publication Policies: The American Psychological Association's policy prohibits an author from submitting the same manuscript for concurrent consideration by two or more publications. We are not governed by the APA, but abide by policies of not allowing concurrently submitting manuscripts to different journals. We advise you to consider this when sending your manuscript to In-Mind rather than to a journal governed by a psychological association.

We only accept review articles that are directed at the general audience. It is not possible to publish original data sets.

Copyright of accepted manuscripts are automatically transferred to In-Mind. The English version of In-Mind is indexed in the International Standard Serial Number Register under ISSN 1877-5306.

The format to refer to In-Mind articles are as follows:
